Quality Inn Mammoth Lakes is in bad condition : can't call front desk because phone doesn't work; ice machine is out of order; the hallways are not vacuumed and the place is not very well cared for. The young front desk clerk doesn't seem to be concerned.

Having just left the Quality Inn in Hurricane, Utah, where everyone was so nice and helpful, it's a let down to have to be at this one.

Reason of review: Damaged or defective.

Location: San Jose, California

Quality Inns are all franchise owned, which means that owners and management decide how the place is run with little to no corporate input. I used to work at one, and you should avoid quality inn.

There is never enough staff on hand to run the place, ever.

They hire 3-4 people at most to work the front desk, one at a time of course. There are no "sick days" and some weeks during the summer season (or if someone quits) there aren't even any days off at all. Life goes on and people get sick, have car trouble etc, and have to call in.

If someone doesn't show up for their shift, someone else is most likely stuck working a double. Calling management for relief is a waste of time, the manager is ALWAYS busy when it comes to work on their time off.

It's hard to care about your job when you're treated like trash and burned out from working yourself to death, usually with no over time pay.

All that doesn't have much to do with the customer, but housekeeping practices do.

As I said every quality inn is run differently, but just like with desk clerks they barely hire enough housekeepers. We had 3, and one was on laundry duty every single day, so 2 people to clean 70+ rooms. They would come in at 8am and sometimes not leave until after 10pm, again with no overtime pay. That means they're rushing through cleaning the rooms, skipping over things and hiding things to shave off a minute or two.

It pays to work fast when you get paid by the room.

I cant tell you how many angry people complained about dirty sheets, hair, blood, and other things I wont mention being in their "clean" rooms. For the $100 you'll pay here add twenty or thirty bucks to it and go to a Holiday Inn.
